Contract repacking and rework

Stock changed.

A practical route for products that need a pack, label, configuration or presentation change before they can move forward.

What contract repacking and rework can solve

Stock can be commercially sound but unable to move because its packaging, label, bundle, insert, configuration or presentation is wrong for the next stage. Contract repacking creates a defined route from that current condition to an agreed finished state.

The project may be corrective, commercial or operational: artwork has changed, a promotion has ended, units need regrouping, a component is missing, an outer pack has failed or an existing format no longer fits the destination. The important part is to avoid treating an unclear problem as simple labour.

Start with evidence

Photographs, samples, quantities, batch or version information and a clear explanation of the defect make the first review faster. The team also needs the approved corrective instruction and the standard the completed stock must meet.

Protect the good stock

A rework brief should identify what can be reused, what must be removed, what new materials are required and how rejected or surplus items are handled. Those decisions are agreed before the run, not improvised during it.

Rework briefs

Common reasons stock
needs another pass.

Every requirement is reviewed for product, material, handling, volume and timing suitability before acceptance.

01

Pack format change

Move suitable goods from an existing configuration into a new approved pack, outer, bundle or presentation.

02

Relabelling

Replace, cover or add approved label information to a defined placement and version instruction.

03

Component correction

Add, remove or replace an agreed component, insert or accessory where the product and process are suitable.

04

Presentation recovery

Correct assembly, orientation, grouping or visible presentation issues against an agreed finished sample.

05

Promotion changeover

Review stock that must move into or out of campaign, seasonal, multi-buy or promotional packaging.

06

Inspection & segregation

Agree a check and segregation requirement where stock must be sorted by a clearly observable acceptance rule.

Approved state.

Good rework instructions make the gap between the two unambiguous.

  • Identify product, version, quantity and present condition
  • Separate usable, rejected and uncertain stock
  • Confirm removal, replacement and new material requirements
  • Use an approved sample, image, artwork or written standard
  • Agree completion records, packing and onward destination

Repacking FAQs

Before corrected stock returns to the supply chain.

Send the real issue, not a simplified category. A clearer brief creates a more useful review.

What is contract repacking?

Contract repacking changes existing stock from its current pack format or presentation into an agreed finished format. The original condition, correction method and acceptance standard are reviewed before work begins.

Can incorrectly labelled stock be reworked?

Relabelling and corrective label projects can be reviewed where the approved artwork, placement, product, quantity and process are suitable. Suitability must be confirmed from the full brief.

What happens to removed materials?

The brief should state whether materials are reused, returned, retained, counted or handled another agreed way. Do not assume disposal arrangements; include them in the scope.

Can urgent rework be reviewed?

Yes. State the quantity, current stock location, exact issue, approved correction and required completion date. Timing is confirmed only after the work has been assessed.
